Managed IT Services and IT Support in Los Angeles

IT support in Los Angeles is usually bought as managed IT, which published pricing guides put at $100 to $250 per user per month 1. Since January 1, 2026, California also requires breach notices to affected residents within 30 calendar days 8, so response planning is now part of the job.

Plan prices are one provider's published 2026 tiers (Strategic Micro Systems, Managed IT Services Cost Per User: A 2026 Pricing Guide). The in-house figure is the median salary for network and computer systems administrators (BLS OEWS May 2025 via O*NET OnLine, Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, CA: $106,290) divided by 0.70, because benefits are 30% of total compensation (BLS Employer Costs for Employee Compensation, June 2026). This is our calculation. Licenses, hardware and projects are extra either way, and one person cannot cover every hour.

California breach notice rule: notify affected residents within 30 days. The Attorney General must also be notified when a breach involves more than 500 residents. The full rule and statute link are in our California data breach notification law summary.

Managed IT services
Managed IT services are IT operations handed to an outside company under a monthly contract, covering user support, system monitoring and maintenance, security tools, backups and technology planning.

IT support and managed IT costs in Los Angeles

Published pricing guides put managed IT, the usual way small and midsize Los Angeles firms buy IT support, at $100 to $250 per user per month, with security-heavy plans reaching $300 or more 15. Hourly break-fix support typically runs $75 to $250 per hour, with emergency rates of $300 or more 1.

Local salaries explain why outsourcing wins for most offices under 50 people. In the Los Angeles metro, the May 2025 median salary was $106,290 for a network and computer systems administrator and $75,070 for a computer user support specialist 2. The support specialist median is about $13,000 above the national figure for that role 4. With benefits at 30% of private employer compensation costs 3, staffing both roles costs about $259,000 a year by our calculation, against $30,000 to $75,000 for 25 users on a managed plan.

Los Angeles businesses and the IT they rely on

Los Angeles County had 304,988 business establishments in 2023, including 53,123 with 10 to 49 employees and 11,369 with 50 to 249 5. It also had 4,424 establishments in computer systems design and related services 5.

In the Los Angeles division, education and health services employed about 1,029,100 people in August 2026, professional and business services 657,500, manufacturing 299,200 and information 168,900 (preliminary) 6. HUD describes the metro as the entertainment capital of the world and a national leader in aerospace technology 7. Those sectors create distinct IT needs:

  • Entertainment and media. Production companies, post houses and agencies move large files, juggle freelancers and protect unreleased content. They need fast storage, clean offboarding and tight sharing controls.
  • Health care. Kaiser Permanente, with about 37,400 workers, is among the county's largest private employers 7. Practices and vendors that handle patient records need HIPAA-aligned IT; see HIPAA compliance services.
  • Aerospace and defense. Northrop Grumman employs about 16,600 people in the county 7, and suppliers that handle controlled defense information face the CMMC and NIST SP 800-171 obligations described below.

California rules: CCPA and the 30-day breach deadline

California's breach law got stricter in 2026. Under SB 446, effective January 1, 2026, businesses must notify affected California residents within 30 calendar days of discovering a breach. When a breach involves more than 500 Californians, the Attorney General also gets a sample copy of the notice, due within 15 days after consumers are notified 89. Thirty days passes quickly when you still need forensics, a list of affected people and mailing addresses, so ask any provider for a written incident response plan that fits that window.

The California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the CPRA, covers for-profit businesses doing business in California that meet any one of three tests 10. The tests are gross revenue above $26,625,000; buying, selling or sharing the personal information of 100,000 or more consumers or households; or earning half of revenue from selling or sharing it 10. There is no separate small business exemption, but the tests exclude most small firms 10. Agencies and ecommerce brands with large customer lists should check the 100,000 test even if their revenue is modest.

Your counsel should confirm which tests you meet.

Cybersecurity services in Los Angeles

California leads every state in reported internet crime. Californians filed 116,414 complaints with the FBI's IC3 in 2025 and reported $3.67 billion in losses 11. Fake invoices and changed bank details are a major risk: business email compromise caused about $3.05 billion in reported losses nationally in 2025 11.

A sound security package for an LA office includes MFA, endpoint detection and response with active monitoring, email security, tested backups and a breach plan written around the 30-day deadline. Production and creative teams also need controls on shared links and external drives.

Defense suppliers have a separate checklist. On July 13, 2026, DoD suspended CMMC Phase 2, which had been due November 10, 2026, and no restart date has been set 12. Southern California suppliers still owe DFARS 252.204-7012 compliance and NIST SP 800-171 Rev 2 self-assessments in the meantime 12, and the schedule could shift again. Our CMMC overview explains what to do now, and cybersecurity for small businesses covers the baseline for everyone else.

IT consulting and co-managed support in LA

Co-managed IT is the usual fit for Los Angeles firms that already have an IT manager. Scope sets the price: one provider's published estimate runs from $45 per user per month for escalation and monitoring to $175 with a security operations center 13. The provider typically adds monitoring, patching, security tools and after-hours coverage while your staff handle users and vendors. See co-managed IT for how to split the work.

Project-based IT consulting is billed separately; one 2026 guide lists external consultants at $150 to $250 per hour 14. Typical LA projects include storage upgrades for media workflows, a CCPA data inventory, a NIST SP 800-171 gap review for a defense supplier, and office moves. Our IT consulting guide covers how to write a project brief.

Choosing a managed service provider in Los Angeles

Distance shapes LA service, so settle on-site coverage early. A provider whose technicians are an hour away in traffic may still suit a remote-first firm, but not a clinic or studio that needs hands on equipment. Ask each candidate:

  • Where are your technicians based, and how is on-site time billed?
  • Can you show an incident response plan that meets California's 30-day notice rule?
  • Have you supported HIPAA practices or defense suppliers working toward NIST SP 800-171?
  • Who owns our admin credentials and documentation if we leave?

If you also have staff in Orange County, San Diego or Fresno, ask whether one provider can cover every site. Our MSP selection guide has more questions, and the managed IT services overview explains standard terms. A request through the form goes to one local provider or advisory partner, who replies within one business day.

Common questions

How much is IT support in Los Angeles?

Managed IT support in Los Angeles typically falls in the $100 to $250 per user per month range in published pricing guides 1. Hourly break-fix work runs about $75 to $250 per hour, more for emergencies 1. Most providers quote after a short review of your users, devices and sites.

What does it cost to hire an IT person in Los Angeles?

The LA metro median salary was $106,290 for a systems administrator and $75,070 for a user support specialist in May 2025 2. Adding benefits, the administrator costs about $151,800 a year by our calculation from BLS data 3.

How long does a California business have to report a data breach?

Thirty calendar days from discovery, under SB 446, effective January 1, 2026 8. Once more than 500 Californians receive notice, the Attorney General gets a sample copy, due 15 days after the consumer notices go out 89.

Does the CCPA apply to my small business in Los Angeles?

Only if you meet one of its tests: over $26,625,000 in gross revenue, buying, selling or sharing personal information of 100,000 or more consumers or households, or earning half your revenue from selling or sharing it 10. Most small firms fall below all three, but ecommerce and marketing businesses should check the 100,000 test.

Do Los Angeles aerospace suppliers need CMMC now?

CMMC is paused in Phase 1, so contracts currently require only self-assessments, and Phase 2 has no new start date 12. DFARS 252.204-7012 and NIST SP 800-171 Rev 2 obligations still apply 12. Check your contracts and expect the schedule to change.

What cybersecurity services do LA businesses need most?

Start with MFA, monitored endpoint protection, email security and tested backups, then add a breach response plan sized to California's 30-day deadline. California reported $3.67 billion in internet crime losses in 2025, the most of any state 11.
