Plan prices are one provider's published 2026 tiers (Strategic Micro Systems, Managed IT Services Cost Per User: A 2026 Pricing Guide). The in-house figure is the median salary for network and computer systems administrators (BLS OEWS May 2025 via O*NET OnLine, Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, CA: $106,290) divided by 0.70, because benefits are 30% of total compensation (BLS Employer Costs for Employee Compensation, June 2026). This is our calculation. Licenses, hardware and projects are extra either way, and one person cannot cover every hour.

California breach notice rule: notify affected residents within 30 days. The Attorney General must also be notified when a breach involves more than 500 residents. The full rule and statute link are in our California data breach notification law summary.

IT services
IT services, in the managed sense, are the support, maintenance, security and planning work an outside provider performs for a business under an ongoing contract, as opposed to one-off repairs billed by the hour.

IT services and managed IT costs in Orange County

For small businesses, the managed IT range in published provider guides is $100 to $250 per user per month 1. Device-based plans are the other common model; one provider's 2026 guide lists workstations at $50 to $100 a month and servers at $100 to $400 18.

The local wage data comes with a caveat. The BLS wage tables used here (as republished by O*NET) do not break out the Anaheim-Santa Ana-Irvine division, so the figures are for the whole Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim metro. There, a network and computer systems administrator earned a median $106,290 in May 2025 and a help desk specialist $75,070 23. Benefits were 30% of private employer compensation costs in June 2026 4, so the sysadmin costs about $151,800 a year including benefits, based on BLS data.

Against that, a 25-person Orange County office spending $30,000 to $75,000 a year on managed IT spends far less than one fully loaded hire. Our managed IT pricing guide explains contract models and add-ons.

Orange County businesses and their IT needs

Orange County is a large, mostly small-business market. It had 106,961 business establishments in 2023, with 21,000 employing 10 to 49 people and 4,765 employing 50 to 249 5. The county also had 2,582 establishments in computer systems design and related services 6, a category that includes MSPs as well as software and consulting firms.

In August 2026 the Anaheim-Santa Ana-Irvine division had 316,700 professional and business services jobs, 294,900 education and health services jobs, 148,000 manufacturing jobs and 103,800 financial activities jobs, out of 1,685,700 nonfarm jobs (preliminary) 7. HUD's 2022 analysis counted 45 hospitals in the county, listed Providence, Kaiser Permanente, Hoag and MemorialCare among the largest employers, and cited 2,878 technology companies employing nearly 134,500 people in 2021 8. It also reported that Raytheon Technologies had 2,000 employees in Orange County and added 700 jobs in 2021 8.

So the common buyers are professional services firms (law, accounting, real estate, mortgage), clinics and medical groups, and manufacturers and engineering firms, some of them in aerospace supply chains.

CCPA and California breach rules for Orange County businesses

The CCPA, as amended by the CPRA, reaches for-profit businesses doing business in California that meet any one of three tests 910:

  • Annual gross revenue above $26,625,000 (the inflation-adjusted figure effective January 1, 2025).
  • Buying, selling or sharing personal information of 100,000 or more consumers or households.
  • Earning 50% or more of annual revenue from selling or sharing personal information.

There is no separate small-business exemption, so a mid-sized Orange County firm that crosses the revenue line is covered even with few employees 9. Covered businesses need to know what personal data they hold and where, which is an IT inventory job before it is a legal one.

California's breach law applies regardless of size. Since January 1, 2026, the deadline to notify affected residents is 30 calendar days from discovering a breach 11. When the notice reaches more than 500 Californians, the business also sends the Attorney General a sample copy within 15 calendar days 11. The Attorney General's office takes those submissions online 12. Confirm the details for your company with counsel.

Cybersecurity services and cybersecurity companies in Orange County

Orange County firms need the same core cybersecurity services whether they come from a dedicated security company or from their managed IT provider: MFA, endpoint detection and response, email security, logging and tested backups. Our small business cybersecurity guide prices them.

California led the country in 2025 complaints to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center, with 116,414 complaints and $3.67 billion in reported losses 13. These are complaints filed, not unique victims.

Orange County's health systems create a second pressure point. HIPAA Journal's analysis of federal data counts more than 700 large healthcare breaches in the US in 2025 16, and medical groups and their vendors are often asked to prove their controls. Aerospace suppliers face a third: under DFARS 252.204-7012, contractors handling covered defense information must implement NIST SP 800-171 and report cyber incidents to DoD within 72 hours 15. CMMC third-party certification is paused in Phase 1 after DoD's July 13, 2026 suspension, while self-assessment requirements remain 14; the schedule may change. Our CMMC overview covers the details.

If an incident is underway, contact your cyber insurer's hotline first if you hold a policy, then report it at ic3.gov. Save logs and images of affected systems before anything is rebuilt.

IT consulting and co-managed IT in Orange County

Firms with an in-house IT person can buy co-managed IT instead of full outsourcing; one provider prices that at $45 to $175 per user per month in its 2026 estimate 17. Our co-managed IT guide explains the split, and our IT consulting page covers projects such as a CCPA data inventory or office move.

Choosing IT support in Orange County

Ask Orange County providers how they cover the county and nearby offices, including Los Angeles, San Diego and Las Vegas, and whether on-site visits are included. Ask how they would support a 30-day California breach notice and, if you handle health or defense data, which agreements they sign. For the full question list, use our MSP selection checklist; for scope, see the managed IT services overview.

Common questions

How much do IT services cost in Orange County?

Orange County offices usually see quotes of $100 to $250 per user per month, matching published provider guides 1. For 25 people that comes to roughly $30,000 to $75,000 a year. Device-based pricing runs $50 to $100 per workstation in one 2026 guide 18.

Does the CCPA apply to small businesses in Orange County?

Only if one of its three tests fits: revenue above $26,625,000; buying, selling or sharing the personal information of at least 100,000 consumers or households; or earning half or more of revenue from selling or sharing it 9. California's breach law applies to everyone 11.

What does an IT employee cost in Orange County?

In the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim metro, systems administrators earned a median $106,290 in May 2025 2. With benefits that is about $151,800 a year, based on BLS data 4. Our wage source does not break out Orange County separately.

How quickly must Orange County businesses report a data breach?

Affected California residents must hear from you within 30 calendar days of discovery 11. Above 500 notices, the Attorney General gets a sample copy within 15 days 11.

Should I hire a cybersecurity company or get security from my MSP?

Small firms usually get core security through their managed IT provider. A separate cybersecurity company makes sense for penetration testing, incident response or compliance work such as NIST SP 800-171 for defense suppliers 15.

Do Orange County aerospace suppliers need CMMC now?

Third-party CMMC certification is paused, but self-assessment requirements remain in place 14. Suppliers handling covered defense information must still implement NIST SP 800-171 under DFARS 7012 15.
