The in-house figure is the median salary for network and computer systems administrators (BLS OEWS May 2025 via O*NET OnLine, Denver-Aurora-Centennial, CO: $105,090) divided by 0.70, because benefits are 30% of total compensation (BLS Employer Costs for Employee Compensation, June 2026). - Managed IT services
- Managed IT services are a subscription-style IT arrangement in which an outside provider supports users, maintains and secures devices and servers, manages backups and advises on technology for a set monthly price.
Managed IT services in Denver: cost and value
A Denver managed IT proposal priced between $100 and $250 per user per month is in line with published pricing guides; plans with extensive security can reach $300 or more 12. Pricing per device is also common, at $50 to $100 per workstation in one provider's 2026 guide 12.
Entry-level IT help is unusually expensive in Denver. The metro median salary for a computer user support specialist was $75,480 in May 2025, about $13,600 above the national median of $61,860 24. A network and computer systems administrator earned a median of $105,090 2. Benefits add 30% of total compensation 3, so even a single help desk hire costs about $107,800 a year by our calculation. A 25-person office would pay less for a fully managed plan at the top of the published range.
Our managed IT pricing guide explains what belongs in a monthly fee and what gets billed as projects.
Denver's business community and what drives IT spending
Denver County had 27,422 business establishments in 2023 5. Of those, 5,720 employed 10 to 49 people and 1,524 employed 50 to 249 5. The county also had 709 computer systems design and related services establishments 5. These counts exclude suburban counties such as Arapahoe, Jefferson and Adams, where many metro offices sit.
Across the Denver metro, professional and business services employed about 318,900 people in August 2026, education and health services 227,700 and financial activities 113,900 (preliminary) 6. Two employer groups set the tone for IT requirements:
- Health systems. Six of the 10 largest metro employers provide medical services, led by UCHealth, HCA HealthONE and Intermountain Healthcare 7. Outpatient clinics, therapy groups and medical software firms need HIPAA-aligned IT; see HIPAA compliance services.
- Aerospace and defense. Lockheed Martin employs 9,320 people in the area 7. Machine shops, engineering firms and software suppliers in its supply chain handle defense information under DFARS rules, covered below.

Get my Denver quoteColorado privacy and security rules
Colorado sets firm deadlines and has a full consumer privacy law. A business must notify affected Colorado residents without unreasonable delay and no later than 30 days after determining a breach occurred. If 500 or more residents are affected, the Attorney General must also hear within that 30 days 8.
The Colorado Privacy Act has been in effect since July 1, 2023 9. It applies to businesses that operate in Colorado or target its residents and that process personal data of 100,000 or more Colorado consumers a year, or of 25,000 or more while earning revenue or discounts from selling personal data 9. There is no separate small business exemption 9, so a modest-sized Denver ecommerce, app or marketing company can be covered if its customer list is large enough.
Separately, Colorado law requires any business holding personal identifying information of Colorado residents to keep reasonable security procedures suited to the data and the size of the business 10. Your IT provider's records should be able to show you meet that rule. Counsel can confirm what it requires for your data.
Cybersecurity services for Denver businesses
Colorado residents filed 18,847 complaints with the FBI's IC3 in 2025 and reported $355 million in losses 11. That ranks Colorado 18th among states by complaints, but one incident can still be severe for a small firm. Business email compromise alone caused about $3.05 billion in losses reported to the FBI 11.
Denver cybersecurity services should cover MFA, monitored endpoint protection, email security, tested backups and staff training, plus the documentation that proves Colorado's reasonable security standard is met.
Defense suppliers have extra work. DoD paused CMMC in Phase 1 on July 13, 2026, and Phase 2 certification has no new start date 13. Contracts can currently require only Level 1 or Level 2 self-assessments, and DFARS 252.204-7012 and NIST SP 800-171 Rev 2 still apply 13. Expect the schedule to change. See our CMMC guide and NIST SP 800-171 overview, and for everyone else, cybersecurity for small business.
IT consulting and co-managed options in Denver
Denver firms that already have IT staff can add a provider through co-managed IT. One provider's published co-managed pricing runs from $45 to $175 per user per month 14. With local support specialists costing well over $100,000 loaded, some companies use co-managed support to cover after-hours monitoring and security instead of adding headcount. See co-managed IT.
Project work is billed separately, typically at $150 to $250 an hour for external consultants in a 2026 cost guide 15. Common Denver projects include NIST SP 800-171 gap assessments for aerospace suppliers, Colorado Privacy Act data mapping, cloud migrations and network upgrades for growing offices. See IT consulting.
Choosing a Denver managed service provider
Pick a Denver provider based on how it will cover your actual locations and requirements. Offices spread across suburban counties, or staff in mountain towns, change what on-site coverage costs. Ask:
- Where do you send technicians, and how is travel billed?
- Have you supported defense suppliers through a NIST SP 800-171 self-assessment?
- Can you document our security program against Colorado's reasonable security requirement?
- What happens to our admin access and documentation if we leave?
If you have staff in Salt Lake City, Omaha or Kansas City, confirm those offices are inside the provider's service area. For contract terms, see our guide to choosing an MSP and the managed IT services hub. When you send the form, one local provider or advisory partner will reply by email within one business day.
Common questions
How much do managed IT services cost in Denver?
Denver quotes should sit near the $100 to $250 per user per month that published guides list 1. A 25-person Denver office would budget about $30,000 to $75,000 a year. Plans with heavy security or compliance reporting cost more.
What does IT support staff cost in Denver?
Does the Colorado Privacy Act apply to small businesses?
It can. There is no small business exemption; the law applies based on how many Colorado consumers' data you process, 100,000 or more a year, or 25,000 or more if you profit from selling personal data 9. Many local service firms fall below those levels, but online businesses should check.
