The in-house figure is the median salary for network and computer systems administrators (BLS OEWS May 2025 via O*NET OnLine, Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX: $103,260) divided by 0.70, because benefits are 30% of total compensation (BLS Employer Costs for Employee Compensation, June 2026). Our managed IT pricing guide explains what separates a $100 plan from a $250 one.
Aerospace, aviation and logistics drive local IT needs
Fort Worth's economy leans on aerospace, aviation and freight. American Airlines (35,000 employees, headquartered in Tarrant County), Lockheed Martin (21,500), DFW International Airport (14,000), GM Arlington Assembly and Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth (10,500 including military) are among the largest employers 10. Lockheed builds the F-35 in Fort Worth; a January 2024 report put its local workforce at 18,700 11.
In August 2026 (preliminary), trade, transportation and utilities employed 289,300 people in the Fort Worth-Arlington division, and manufacturing 110,000 12. Behind those numbers are machine shops, parts suppliers, freight brokers and warehouses whose downtime is measured in missed shipments.
Census counts for 2023 show 47,656 establishments in Tarrant County: 11,456 in the 10 to 49 employee range and 2,740 in the 50 to 249 range 4. The county also had 850 computer systems design and related services establishments 4. Healthcare is a third pillar, with Texas Health Resources and Cook Children's among the top employers 10.

Get my Fort Worth quoteFor the F-35 supply chain: CMMC and NIST 800-171 now
Fort Worth's defense suppliers should keep working on NIST SP 800-171 even though CMMC certification is on hold. DoD paused CMMC in Phase 1 on July 13, 2026, and Phase 2 third-party assessments have no new date 13.
During the pause, contracting officers may only require Level 1 (Self) or Level 2 (Self) and must remove third-party assessment requirements from existing contracts 14. DFARS 252.204-7012 still applies, and DoD says it will enforce NIST SP 800-171 Rev 2 1314. Requirements may change once DoD's review ends.
Machine shops that receive technical drawings marked as controlled data are directly affected. Two clauses matter most day to day. DFARS 252.204-7012 requires a cyber incident report to DoD within 72 hours of discovery 25. DFARS 252.204-7020 bars a prime from awarding a covered subcontract unless the supplier has at least a Basic NIST SP 800-171 assessment from the last three years 26. A shop with no current score can lose work over paperwork alone, so ask your IT provider to keep the assessment evidence current. See our pages on CMMC, NIST SP 800-171 and manufacturing IT.
Texas rules every Fort Worth business should know
Fort Worth businesses must notify affected individuals within 60 days of determining a breach, and must notify the Attorney General within 30 days if 250 or more Texans are affected 515.
The Texas Data Privacy and Security Act excludes SBA-defined small businesses, except that they need consent to sell sensitive data 16. Larger mid-market manufacturers and distributors may be covered.
A 2025 law, in force since September 1, protects Texas businesses with fewer than 250 employees from punitive damages after a breach if they kept a qualifying cybersecurity program, such as one conforming to the NIST Cybersecurity Framework 17. The state's biometric law requires notice and consent before capturing fingerprints or face scans for a commercial purpose 18; plants with biometric time clocks should ask counsel how it applies.
Only California logged more FBI IC3 complaints than Texas in 2025, when Texans filed 97,912 19.
Cybersecurity services for Fort Worth companies
Manufacturers and logistics firms should plan for ransomware first, because it stops production. The 2026 Verizon DBIR found ransomware in 48% of breaches 20, and the top entry point was exploitation of vulnerabilities at 31% 21.
Third parties matter here too. Suppliers in an aerospace chain trade drawings, portal logins and remote support access constantly, and third-party involvement reached 48% of breaches in the 2026 DBIR 21. Keep a list of every vendor with access to your systems, and remove access the day a project ends.
Priorities: patch internet-facing systems quickly, separate plant and office networks, require MFA, run endpoint detection and response, and keep tested offline backups. Sophos's 2026 U.S. survey found 60% of victims used backups to recover encrypted data 22. Our backup and disaster recovery guide and small business cybersecurity guide go deeper.
IT consulting, co-managed IT and choosing a provider
Plants with an internal IT lead often keep that person for the floor and add co-managed IT for security and after-hours monitoring. Expect $45 to $175 per user per month based on one provider's 2026 pricing 23. Read more on co-managed IT.
For one-off projects such as a network redesign or a controlled-data enclave build, outside IT consultants are published at $150 to $250 an hour 24. Our IT consulting guide compares project and retainer models.

Common questions
How much does IT support cost in Fort Worth?
Do Fort Worth defense suppliers need CMMC certification?
What does Texas require after a data breach?
Texas requires notice to affected individuals within 60 days, and Attorney General notice within 30 days if 250 or more Texans are affected 5. State law also requires reasonable security procedures.
Does a Fort Worth plant need an IT company that can come on site?
Usually yes. Office tickets can mostly be handled remotely, but network gear and shop-floor PCs in plants, warehouses and machine shops often need hands on site. Ask how quickly a technician can reach your site and how visits are billed.
Can a Fort Worth manufacturer use co-managed IT?
Yes. Many keep an internal IT person for plant systems and buy monitoring, security and help desk depth from a provider, at $45 to $175 per user per month in one provider's 2026 pricing 23.
How does the Texas punitive damages safe harbor help a Fort Worth firm?
It is a 2025 law that shields Texas businesses under 250 employees from punitive damages after a breach if they maintained a qualifying cybersecurity program 17. It does not remove all liability.
